Does it take courage to attack someone on X (Twitter)? Maybe it takes courage – I suppose?? No doubt, after your attack, you may come “under fire” if the public deems your comments insensitive or even worse, totally inappropriate. Maybe, if you post a harsh criticism of someone by using X (Twitter) or any other social media platform, it was because you felt the “crime” was so egregious, that it required someone to speak for those who don’t have the courage to speak for themselves. Maybe it is courage – maybe not!
Here is a quote from Bradley Whitford (star of The West Wing) about his co-star Cheryl Hines, the spouse of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., after Kennedy endorsed Donald Trump:
“Hey @CherylHines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights. Gutsy. Great example for the kids. Profile in courage.“
So let’s see if I have this correct – Cheryl Hines, the wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (lunatic husband), is being criticized because, in the opinion of co- star Bradley Whitford, she remained silent after her husband had the temerity to endorse a candidate that, in the eyes of Whitford, is unacceptable. Would you agree that this correctly describes the situation?
Now that his tweet has been clarified, it may prove enlightening to ask a few questions.
- Is it appropriate for Bradley to use X (Twitter) to weigh-in publicly on RFK Jr’s endorsement by attacking his wife?
- Is it appropriate to refer to RFK Jr. (her husband) as a lunatic?
- Is it appropriate for Bradley to tell Cheryl Hines how she should respond?
- Is it appropriate to chastise Cheryl for not being a “good” role model?
- Finally – what has happened to civility?
Just maybe Bradley, Robert F Kennedy is not a lunatic; that’s a possibility, isn’t it? Maybe he has the courage to take a stand, even if his stance upsets many people that have a different opinion! Just maybe, you need to be less self-absorbed, and understand that others might see the situation differently. Please find below a rather famous quote from President John F. Kennedy’s classic book, Profiles in Courage:
“A man does what he must – in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures – and that is the basis of all human morality.
Just maybe we all need a little more GRACE these days!
Please take a moment to review this short video of Bill Maher as he gives us his take on the quote from Bradley Whitford.
Whether you view yourself and vote as a liberal, conservative, or independent matters not to me! Your beliefs are yours – God Bless America!! What does matter however, is we need to follow the Golden Rule – “Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”
